I am an expert x 2 when it comes to eating disorders. I have lived the nightmare of watching helplessly as my beloved (now healthy) daughter sank deep into the clutches of anorexia, with little guidance on what we could do to help. Out of that experience, I became an expert in the treatment of eating disorders, working for many years with individuals and families in a variety of settings and eventually earning the designation of Certified Eating Disorders Specialist. In 2021 I launched Spoonful of Courage For Parents, where I bring together my lived experience and my professional training to guide parents in helping their children recover.
Because I am not treating you for an illness this service is not eligible for insurance reimbursement. It is possible that you may be able to get approval to use Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account funds if your child’s doctor provides a letter of medical necessity. Check with your benefits provider to be certain. My coaching is rooted in Family-Based Treatment ( Maudsley) principles, the recommended first-line strategy for helping teens with anorexia and bulimia. I also lean heavily on brain science to guide you in developing effective ways of helping yourself and your children cope with the stresses of eating disorder treatment. I will collaborate with your child’s treatment team to help you step more confidently into your important role in your child’s recovery.
My services are available anywhere in the U.S. through the wonders of Zoom! For those in the Asheville area, my office is located at 44 Merrimon Ave. Suite E. Asheville NC 28801
