I’ve been working in the eating disorders treatment field since 1990, and certified as an Eating Disorders Specialist (CEDS) by the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (IAEDP) since 1995. I diagnose and treat anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, compulsive/emotional eating, compulsive exercise, body image issues and related problems. I take a Health at Every Size (HAES) approach, and help people let go of diet mentality and create positive, fulfilling relationships with food, body and self.
I believe that the body is important to include in therapy, not because of weight, shape or size, but because of the autonomic nervous system’s role in our experience of safety, belonging, and regulation of challenging feeling states that disordered eating and exercise behaviors develop, as a protective strategy, to manage. To heal trauma and childhood wounding, I use Internal Family Systems, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Somatic Experiencing and EMDR, and also Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) for concrete skills to manage emotions and urges. I periodically offer Trauma-Sensitive Yoga classes and Love Thy Body: Yoga For Eating and Body Image Concerns groups.
